I have been watching on my dish on a couple of channels the carnivals in Brazil..
there are two types of carnivals..the big one in Rio,with all the great costumes..However,NO shoulder rides ever take place in this one..
the other carnival is in a area called San Salvador..This street carnival parade is called Bahia carnival..This is the one where we always see photos on the internet of shoulder rides..This year,on my dish,a channel in Brazil called (rcord) (channel 597)on dish network is showing many many hours per day of the Bahia carnival..The bahia carnival is singers on top of moving floats, and have for each group or team their own people..Example,for one singer, there will be thousands of girls and guys dressed up all the same and just singing and dancing in the streets and following the singer and their floats..For each different singers and floats, all the people on the street are dressed the way their group tells them to dress..One group will be wearing all white or yellow, others have bluer or black..It all depends..The girls though can have black, brown, white or any colour shorts, but the shirt part must be all the same..The one great thing about this channel rcord, they don't play games with camera..They will actually most of time show the people on street only, and not as much the singers and band in the floats..Very close up photos from the cameras and tv..It is great..For anyone who is in Brazil from this group, you know what I am talking about when you see this channel..Here is the problem though over the last few days watching the parades..VERY little as in shoulder rides..What happend this year I do not know..Very few females on guys shoulders..Very few..Maybe though today, and tomorow which will be the last day of the carnivals, may produce more shoulder rides..It is like no one wanted a shoulder ride this year..What a shame as so many hot looking females...that is is from the brazil parades..
Now,on to webshots..As some of you know, they were bought by a company in usa called american greetings..l don't know if people just stopped putting in photos in webshots..Since august, you can almost count how many different photos they have put..This is how bad is become..There is probably 99.9999% fewer photos on a daily basis than compared to other years..
Scotty,I know you had stated the reason is,more people now use other places to add their photos like facebook or youtube or my space and so on..If you go by this reason, why does Flickr have more photos than ever before on a daily basis then? They are now the best photo sharing place on the internet for new daily photos..I don't think anyone can argue about this...
Now to our group,
What happend to the bonus members albums? Are we just putting photos in regular albums from now on?I have not seen them since Friday..I'm surprised no member has stated this..
And a final say, thank you Biggo for putting my pics in the group..You are a big help..Thank you again my ffriend..well,that is all for now,I hope I helped some members in knowing better how the carnivals in brazil operate...

Hi Vaggelli
Thanks for the observations about Brazil - it is an exciting time of the year for sure. Also - during the "Carnaval" period (I am not too sure when that is but it is soon I believe) there is always stacks of people having pool parties with chicken fights, shoulder rides, triple deckers etc. Youtube is a great place to see these. Use the Brazilian terms "Briga galo" and Piscina for pool to find these.
With regards to Webshots, traffic just seemed to drop dramatically the moment they changed the website back in August 2006. I bet they wished they never made that change now. Traffic dropped 60% overnight and has not returned. Some of it did go to Flickr, which has increased in popularity in time - your observations in that regard are correct. The increase in use of social networking sites accounted for the rest. It is great sadness to see this once fantastic website "Webshots" in such decline now. If it continues, I have got no doubt it will disappear for sure. And with it, 550 million great memories (I mean photos). Most of which were posted before August 2006. Please I hope I am wrong, but they need to find a way to get back traffic off Flickr or they are doomed. I don't think the American Greetings purchase was a co-incidence. C-Net were desperate to sell while they could still get a good price. The site was at it's peak in 2005 with over one million new photos per day, back when the owners were the Webshots administrators and staff themselves - they obviously knew how to run it well and attract business.
Regards
Scotty
