I went to a festival in Spain this summer with two good friends of mine. This was my experience there:
THE FIRST DAY
I ran into a girl I knew from university, and offered her a shoulder ride.
She said she would love to have a better sight, but was very afraid of falling down.
I assured her she was going to be ok, squated behind her and lifted her on my shouders very slowly.
I could tell she was very tense to be up there, and after like 20 seconds she asked me to put her down. Instead of putting her down, I told her to relax and enjoy one song.
As I danced a little bit to the song, she slowly started to relax; but was still quite nervous.
When the song ended, I put her down in the floor very carefully; told her she was very light and pretended I was completely fresh (I could have endured four songs maybe, but I was already a bit tired). I started dancing with another friend. I did this because I wanted her to feel confident she was not going to fall down.
Later that same night, a song she really liked started to sound, so I offered her another shoulder ride. Again she was hesitant but accepted. I lifted her slowly to relax her and I could tell she wasn't as nervous as the first time. I started dancing with more energy, and she got into it and for the first time relaxed completely and started to enjoy. When the song ended she expected me to put her down and unlocked her legs from my back, but I grab her by the ankles and locked them again. Another song started to play, and I started dancing again. She was worried about my back, and asked me to put her down; but I assured her I was ok. After the second song ended, I put her down slowly. She was very impressed by my strenght. I told her she was very light, just in case she was self-concious with her weight (she was about 55 kg).
SECOND DAY
I ran into her again. She acted very happy to see me, and asked me to lift her again. I lifted her for four songs, and had to put her down because I had pain in my neck. I pretended I was fresh because other times showing the smallest tiredness had killed my opportunities for future shoulder rides. Later that night, we saw a very little girl (she wasn't even 50 kg, I would say) that had lost her friends and had no mobile phone. She was very worried about being alone there. My friend acted very nice, and offered her her mobile phone, but her friends didn't answer the call. We told her she could be with us, and she thanked us.
Later, my friend from university (the girl I had lifted) told her I could lift her so that she could see her friends. She declined, saying she was too heavy for me (she was actually very little). My friend insisted I could do it, but she was convinced I wasn't strong enough. I lifted her from the ground on my arms (cradle carry) and told her she was extremely light. She was giggling incontrolably, and I insisted I could carry her. She accepted this time, and I lifted her but she couldn't find her friends.
Later, I lifted my friend for another four songs, and had to put her down because of the pain in the neck again. In front of me there was this big girl (maybe 65 kg) that was dancing a lot and really enjoying the concert. She offered the little girl that was with us a shoulder ride so that she could have a better sight; but she declined. The big girl insisted at least three times, but the little girl didn't want to as she wasn't even enjoying the concert. Then the big girl said:
"If someone offered me to be on his shoulders, I would agree in no time".
My heart started pounding, and nothing would have pleased me more than putting this girl on my shoulders. Unfortunately, I had just put my friend down, so I hadn't the energy to do it. I was completely exhausted. The big girl saw a friend and went with him, and I never saw her again.
THIRD DAY
I got up feeling very stiff. I had pain in the upper back and the neck. I decided I wasn't going to give shoulder rides, as I didn't want to hurt my back.
When I was back home, I was completely ok after two days.
I hope you enjoyed the story, sorry if it was too long or there were English mistakes.

Thanks for this true story, Alberto. It's really a pity that pain usually comes first in our necks and shoulders : We are not "defeated" by our muscles, but by our nerves ... That being said, such sensitiveness may well be an early warning to prevent any worse damage in our muscles, joints .... etc
